Cuatro 2008;

92/100
The 2008 Liberalia Cuatro spent 16 months in new French oak. A glass-coating
opaque purple color, it sports an enticing nose of pain grille, pencil
lead, licorice, violets, and blackberry. Dense, layered, and full-flavored,
this nicely proportioned, lengthy effort will benefit from another 3-4
years of cellaring and offers a drinking window extending from 2015 to
2023+.
Liberalia Enologica, founded and operated by Juan Antonio Fernandez, is
one of the finer producers of the rapidly improving Toro DO. The following
wines were made from organically farmed 100% Tinta de Toro, the local
clone of Tempranillo.

‘Meer dan 50 jaar oude stokken, 12 maanden rijping op Frans en Amerikaans
hout, 12 maanden flesrijping; eerlijke kleur, levendig, pure geur, rijp
fruit, tabak, niet gehinderd door teveel hout, goede balans.’

87/100
The 2002 Cuatro Crianza, made from 50-100 year old vines, is a successful
effort in this more challenging vintage. Its deep ruby/purple color is
followed by a Cotes du Rhone-like, peppery, spicy earthiness, plenty of
black cherry and currant fruit, excellent ripeness, and a nice texture.
