Citrus blossom and lemon cake aromas are augmented by apple and stone
flavors as this intense white remains persistent and harmonious. There’s
a hint of smoke and a creamy, lemony finish. Best from 2013 through 2025.

Patience.

(from Corton Pougets) This has already eaten the majority of its wood
though the tacitum nose is backward, tight and not revealing much aromatically
beyond pure white flower green fruit and subtle spice aromas. By contrast
though, the rich, full and imposingly powerful flavors possess superb
depth of dry extract and huge length on the detailed, focused and penetrating
finish where the minerality is such that it is akin to rolling small pebbles
around in your mouth. This has everything to be a great Corton-Charlemagne.

(equally split between Aloxe and Ladoix and aged in 50% new oak) A reserved
nose with noticeable toast and hints of vanilla serve as background notes
for the green apple, pear and lemon zest aromas that merge into big, textured
and ripe big-boned flavors where the mid-palate fat renders the acidity
almost invisible yet the firm finish is borderline austere. While the
wood has not completely integrated yet, there is plenty of time for it
to do so and more importantly, there is the material for it as well. In
a word terrific.

An effusive white, combining creamy citrus, stone and floral aromas and
flavors. As this develops, a mineral element emerges, along with well-integrated
oak spice. Beautifully balanced in a graceful way, lingering on the long
finish. Best from 2013 through 2030. – B.S.

Sortie 10/08.

(equally split between Aloxe and Ladoix and aged in 50% new oak). Generous
notes of brioche and wood spice serve as a backdrop for the gorgeous green
apple and white flavour aromas that also reflect hints of exotic fruit
that can also be found on the very rich, full and opulent flavors that
culminate in a textured, powerful and penetrating finish that explodes
on the finale. Like the Charmes, this will not be a long distance runner
but the sheer scale and depth of material make for an impressive offer.

From a number of parcels mainly in Aloxe - just above Corton Renardes
and also next to a plot of Bonneau du Martray. The nose is much tighter
than the previous two wines - gives little away, though there is an evolution
of width and higher tones. Despite a little gas on the palate there is
an obvious extra density and rich texture to this wine. Hard to tell just
now, but I think this might end up a slightly more mineral wine than the
blockbuster 2002.

(equally split between Aloxe and Ladoix and aged in 50% new oak). A complex
and perfumed nose featuring subtle wood spicee and elegant, pure and layered
green apple and white orchard fruit aromas, particularly pear. The powerful
intense mouth coating flavors are seekly musceld with fresh, forward and
wonderfully textured finish that goes on and on. This is stractured yet
there is so much mid-palate fat that is should be approachable 5 years
or so in bottle.

Full and rich, but stopping short of oppulent, this white reflets apple,
toast and spice notes such as clove and nutmeg. A vibrant structure keeps
it focused. Lingers nicely on the finish. A forward style with power in

Half above Renardes, half on Pernand/Aloxe border. 50 ares in total. Quite
backward. Rich, full bodied and firm. Good grip. Lovely fruit. Very good
oak touch. Ripe and profound. Fine. From 2008.

ferme.

This
is just a little darker yellow. The nose frankly assaults your senses
with wide, brawny notes of flowers, wet wool, creamy vanilla and just
a little honey. The palate is likewise, no model of restraint; muscled,
rippling acidity wrapped in a slightly buttery fatness but somehow also
an edge of minerality that shows on the long finish. It's a show of muscles
here, but it's a very impressive show.

Medium-plus golden colour. Despite the colour, there is no trace of oxidation
here, rather it is forward but well integrated sweet brioche oak, behind
is a good, freshly mineral base. Concentrated, silkily, waxily smooth
texture. The acidity is understated and the flavours are a mix of the
mineral and savoury. Very mineral finish that is also very long. This
should be at it’s best in another 4 or 5 years, but it did rather on day1
– day two was even better!

Or ? Evidemment.

!

Medium yellow, looks quite young. The nose is lovely - textbook Charlemagne
- wide, deep and dense with hints of agrumes against white blossom. Starts
with a punch a grows even more in the mouth before slowly fading. Quite
good acidity with good purity and intensity from the fruit. I'd have preferred
a touch more sweetness, but this wine should now be left for is more savoury
future. A good Charlemagne.

Firm and closed on the nose. Full and backward on the palate. Good oaky
tones. Good grip. A very well-made fullish wine with lots of depth. Certainly
the size and dimension of a grand cru. One of the best Corton-Charlemagnes
